Spring 2016
Update
Well, so far all 7 hives have survived winter as of 03/27/2016. Another few weeks & we will be out of most early dangers of losing hives this spring. I still have sugar bricks on the hives but they will not be replenished this late and any sugar pieces not eaten will be made into sugar syrup for bee feed later if needed.
Some of the hives appear very strong, but I won't be able to evaluate more accurately until I do full hive inspections. Watch for pictures when that happens.
We also are better prepared this year for swarm season & making splits. We've purchased numerous parts for hive construction but only have 2 ready to go. 3 more are in pieces as of today. Each consists of a bottom board, 2 deep hive bodies, an inner cover and a telescoping cover. We also have several honey supers that need put together. We also have an adequate supply of frames and foundation for the new hives if needed.
We are quickly approaching the season when everything needs done at once. The bees, the gardens, the lawn, spring yard cleanup, etc. etc. What Joy after winter's dreary weather.
