My Photos Page 2
These photos begin with picking up the bees. It's getting real from this point on!
This is where we picked up our bees on 4/19/2014. These folks drive to Georgia, help package the bees and queens, and bring them back to the Pittsburgh area for pick-up by those who placed an order. This place is about 30 miles from our home. It's called Bedillion Honey Farm in Hickory, Pa

This is how they come. It is called a package, totally sealed with queen bee and a can of sugar syrup for feed included. They are located under the small plywood square on top of the box. We got 2 of these, one per hive for around $90 each at this time. Prices will likely rise every year.

Packages of bees ready to install.

You have to remove the syrup can and queen. Then install the queen while still in her little cage and dump the 10,000+ bees into the hive. There are many install video's on YouTube that you can watch the process.

Do it again for the second hive, install the feeders, and close them up. I opted for hive top feeders which is the smaller slightly darker box below the top cover.

Here is a picture of a frame 5 days later when I was checking to make sure that the queens were released from their cages by the bees. The queen cage is being held by a rubber band to the frame. She was released so the cage was removed. You can see the new white comb being drawn out against the black plastic frame background.
