Blue hive was having trouble with weird comb, no eggs or larva seen during week 3 inspection, but saw a supercedure queen cell that was capped. Week 4 inspection found the queen cell gone. I made arrangments with our bee local club president, Stephen Repasky, who is a MasterBeeKeeper to come out for a consultation. Blue hive had a brand new nicely laying queen. He said she has only been laying for a day or so. Apparently she emerged from the supercedure cell, successfully mated, and made it back to her hive alive. He also cleaned up the wonky comb and gave lots of needed advice. This is exactly why you should have 2 hives. The difference between our 2 hives is like night and day. I wouldn't know the difference if I did not have a 2nd hive to compare. Green hive was pretty good with a good laying queen. It was the very much worth it having a real professional evaluate our new hives and help us along to be successful beekeepers.

This is Stephen Repasky on the left beginning our inspection of the Blue hive. He wrote the book "Swarming Essentials" available at Wicwass press

Some of the nasty comb that was removed.
More nasty comb.It was removed very gently.

Not too much to go. I would not have known to do this.We are extremely lucky to have an accomplished beekeeper like Steve available to us.

This is a frame from the green hive. It's much nicer. Lots of eggs, larva and even emerging brood.
Nice new comb drawn out on the plastic foundation in the green hive.
